Carlisle Bay, Antigua Launches Immersive New Wellness Retreat Series

Antigua’s beachfront Carlisle Bay resort is expanding the experience guests have at the enticing property.

Set on an idyllic crescent bay of Antigua’s south coast, Carlisle Bay is celebrated for its enviable white-sand, palm-dotted shores, with verdant flora that grows through the resort and a backdrop of the island’s dramatic hills swathed in rainforest.

Two-storey beach houses home to the resort’s 87 contemporary coastal-inspired suites, which all come with terraces and balconies, join the open-sided dining pavilion, Jetty Grill and a water sports centre on this private stretch of beach, with the resort’s pool area, spa, yoga pavilion and tennis courts, among other amenities, then set within the gardens behind.

Now the resort known for beach retreats paired with time spent on the water and exploring Antigua as a whole is placing a new focus on wellness.

This month, the beachfront escape marked the launch of its new Wellness Retreat series pairing wellness experiences, ranging from yoga, meditation and Pilates to spa treatments, with Caribbean gastronomy and active excursions that immerse you in your surroundings both in the water and on land.

Set out on sailing or snorkeling excursions, take to the water by kayak or paddle-board and hike up Mount Obama before taking an outdoor cooking class in which dishes bring together some of the island’s most nutritious fresh ingredients along with vegetables and herbs from the resort’s own garden. Dine on classic Caribbean dishes at Jetty Grill, try the local seafood at Indigo on the Beach and tuck into healthy Asian dishes at East. Casual Italian plates are served at the poolside restaurant Ottimo.

Rather than setting out a strict wellness regime, each three-night retreat looks to help guests re-set and re-balance in this idyllic setting with the chance to dig into health-giving Caribbean cuisine, get to know more of Antigua and, if you choose to, sample the resort’s rum-based cocktails – also showcased through a cocktail masterclass at Indigo Bar or under the stars at Coconut Grove.

Each day begins with yoga and meditation – every morning taking a different focus, from core engagement to alignment and stability – to the sound of the ocean in the garden-enclosed yoga pavilion.

Days are then spent on guided rainforest hikes to viewpoints overlooking the island and ocean, reef snorkeling on boat trips to Cades Bay, taking part in a cooking experience and joining afternoon mindfulness meditation sessions. The hike up Signal Hill leads to vantage points looking over Carlisle Bay.

This schedule leaves plenty of time for relaxation, more time in the water and indulging in treatments at the resort’s spa offering holistic CARA Organic Beauty and ESPA treatments and encompassing additional facilities including a post-treatment relaxation area.

Ultimately, this retreat aims to boost guests’ physical and mental wellbeing, helping build resilience and focus and develop the skills for managing anxiety and stress, while also ensuring you get the most out of your time on the island. At the resort, you can sign up for tennis clinics and work on your fitness with personal training sessions. Motorized sports such as water-skiing and wakeboarding are offered in a neighboring cove to avoid disturbing the tranquility of the resort’s private bay where turtles are often seen bobbing in the water.

The next wellness retreats bringing all of this together within this picturesque setting are scheduled to take place 7-10 October, 4-7 November and 9-12 December, 2022.
